Excerpt

Have pity on those who are fearful of taking up a pen, or a paintbrush, or an instrument, or a tool because they are afraid that someone has already done so better than they could, and who feel themselves to be unworthy to enter the marvelous mansion of art. But have even more pity on those who, having taken up the pen, or the paintbruash, or the instrument, or the tool, have turned inspiration into a paltry thing, and yet feel themselves to be better than others. Neither of these kinds of people  know thy law that says, 'For there is nothing covered that will not be revealved, nor hidden that will not be known.'

Paulo Coelho in The Pilgrimage.

Blue ribbon

I opened the chest after a very long time. Strange things lay in. Things from years ago. Some so dated that there lay just fragments. Old bottles and books, some so old that the paper just disintegrated in my fingers as I turned the pages. There it was, at the bottom of it all. The long blue ribbon that was woven through my hair each morning as I readied my self for school.

Don’t know why it was kept here or how it landed in the chest in the first place. I lifted it up and as I felt the satin that it was made of, the ribbon began to fade. Almost magically, you wouldn’t believe. I couldn’t understand what was happening as it began to slip through my fingers. I tried to hold it but like water it just seemed to flow through the gaps of my clenching wrists. It touched the ground and as it did, its colour spread to the flooring and crept on to the furniture and the pots and plants that lay there. The fading ribbon, suddenly, no more in my hands, was now all around, it filled the room with its presence.  It flooded the space with memories. A wave of nostalgia spread around.

Quiet

Enjoy a moment of silence
where the world seems still
and yet, it's only you who is
for the vehicles rush by
and the crowds move too
the whistles blow
and the conversations foolish and wise.

Your heart seems loud
your ears so sharp
now the moment fades
you come alive
join the sound
until again found.

Just as tough

Letting go, as holding it together.

Waiting

I sit here and wait
for the train is late
I'll be back home very soon
before the sun goes down and up comes the moon

Why walk

The longer route is good when travelling with the right company, the shorter when one wants to get to it.

Punching a few buttons

So close though far... far though so close.

After some time

The gang becomes larger
but the numbers become smaller...

Trip

To market, To market
To buy some fresh fish
Am cooking, Am cooking
Today’s special, a main course dish

I look and inspect, touch and smell
Buy the best there is to sell
That’s when it happened, I slipped and fell,
Yeah, i know, you you can tell.

Home again, home again
I'm smelling and in pain.

So we remember

Whats the story
Morning glory?
I don't know..Something in my toe
...
Something in your toe?
lets go to Uncle Joe
No no, lets not do so,
Cos he is a bore
...
His wife is a whore
ok... You stay out of the door...

Is one's exclusive or includes others?

It's never too late to

Maybe it does matter

At the end of the day,
whether, while the sun is shinning one makes hay
or simply gathers a tan.

Broken

I fall and i err
I make mistakes
sometimes life seems like a blur
getting up is all it takes
so stand up again
and yes yet again
I slip and I fall
and it's him that i hear
his call, his voice
"Don't worry, don't shed a tear"

For Good

There are things one believes in
sometimes for decades
but the universe sees otherwise, and says ...
one gets not always what one wants
one can't always do only what one likes
accept the plan
play along
and discover what can be
when the crown is lowered
and the harderned left aside
to soften
to be worked on by the elements
to change.

Objects in the mirror

Dimag ki batti

14th March 2010, at Byculla, outside Bhau Daji Laud Museum

The next shop said..

Dog in a bowl

Looked in a bowl of beads
and what did i see
a yellow naughty dog
barking back at me!

Freedom

The joy it brings
wind though the rings...
the spinning circles
A thousand miracles

The yellows, pinks and blues
Sunlight creating beautiful hues
a pleasant sight on an ordinary day
brighting the morning and the walkway.

Responsibility

There lies more than life lines in one's hands.

Lesson

Tomorrow never comes
but troublesome today becomes
If things left for tomorrow
when they can be done today.

The Plunge

Whether jumping off a cliff is smart or stupid depends on where and how one lands.

Though Awake

Walking down the same path
seeing the same things
hearing the same sounds
touching the same surfaces
smelling the same smells
feeling... not much new...

Taking forgranted
the everyday
the suppsedly mundane
the regular
the 'part of back ground'
the normal...

...it's like one is asleep until woken up
to reality.

29:06:10

Late

better than never,
this post should be dated 19th June,

Happy Birthday :)

How long should a gift last?
a moment
a minute
an hour
a day
a week
a fortnight
a month
a quarter
a year

Maybe it doesnt matter...

Time

In a life that just seems to fly by, I wonder why we wish, sometimes, that time should pass quickly or that it seems to have slowed.

Morning chatter

The run is to come to the same place, in the morning to work in the evening to get back home.

...

We can't tell god to give us all the happiness. that is not possible.
Sadness will be there, magar dukhi nahi reh saktai hai. We must stay smiling.
We can't bring our troubles to work.

Maalaa Gone

Oh! How i miss my beads
of turned wood and seeds,
Hoping a friend was right
Removed them, change me they might.
Said they held back, didnt let me be
Or allow to do and possibilities see.

Well nothing changed,no feeling no thought,
Only more disoriented I got,
I wish i hadn't had them thrown,
atleast again, they could be worn.
But alas! they've gone, two years now
I let it happen... I don't know how!

Morning has broken

Staring at the night sky

The stars became sparrows

The silence broke into light

The sweeper, the pressure cooker

The alarm clock

The birds chirping though in the cage

Have their song, it can’t be taken away

So make it new, enjoy the day

05:03:10:: 8:40

The difference felt

Subtle or maybe in the mind

Was one of a kind

Something not with all to find

Can I have it again, time rewind?

14:02:10

On it goes

The squeaking fan

Silence around

Look inside

no one… nothing around

a thousand thoughts

sqeezing to get through

passesngers on the second class coach

routine, nothing new

the crowds they rush

in a moment all gone

a bubble burst

another born

open the palm

skin old and dry

look away

give it another try

Of love and hearts

2:30pm

S called to wish. S messaged. I made just one call that was received with laughter and a ‘I don’t believe you called to wish’. Well I said that to S too and he was like “is that a standard line you use every year?”.

“Umm, did I say that to you last year too?”

I support the ‘save the frog’ campaign. Without frogs, what will happen to the princess at the well?

What’s real in fairy tales needs to be preserved.

on the 14th of Feb P asked me to write on Mohobat ka mahina, the above is all I managed and today posted :) or should I : (

Numb

The woman whose husband suddenly passed away
lay on the floor, eyes shut...
Others got the rituals organized
shed tears
discussed the future of the young girls, the daughters
But she didn't
she just lay, until the tasks were complete
the tears dried off
Was it defense or was it the inability you cope?

Poster in Train

One call can change your life
that's what it said
for a personal loan
with no documents
"Paise hum denge"

Taking the call
that changes life
& then...
to stand up to it
to live by it
to make it beautiful
to ensure youth
to continue life
to march on
to dream and see beyond
to celebrate,
laugh, cry, talk and share
comes only if one can dare.

Muse um

The Chatrapati Shivaji Vastu Sangrahalay (if it's spelt right or pronounced and its complex name rememberd!)by any other name, the Prince of Wales Museum would still be, by far, the best I've seen. Well maintained and beautifully displayed.

Spell hell

With a pen in hand, while taking notes, the letters went 'snale' overwritten to snail and in a while 'roap', big eyes made and changed to rope.

The power of the red corrugated line and the right click has made the keyboard and mouse mightier than the pen. And the sword, well its quite outdated.

Three little ducks

All with time grew
I watchd them all the while
And yet i found there remained just two
So I looked around and realised
that one had gone away, disguised!
